Why Families Choose Our Summer Camps
Professional Suzuki-Trained Instructors
Your child learns from real musicians with professional training — not summer students. Our teachers bring the same exceptional quality to camp that families experience in our year-round programs.
Small Class Sizes, Individual Attention
Every child is seen, celebrated, and supported. Our small teacher-to-student ratios mean your child won't get lost in the crowd.
9 Years of Sold-Out Camps
Families come back year after year because their children leave camp more confident, more creative, and already asking "Can I go again next summer?"
A Real Music School, Not Just a Day Camp
Scotia Suzuki School of Music has been Halifax's home for exceptional music education for over 9 years, serving 250+ students with 25+ teachers. Camp is an extension of everything we do best — led by Camp Director Christy Hodder (B.Mus.Ed., Founder of Scotia Suzuki) and Assistant Director Sia.
Easy Drop-Off, Easy Parking

FAQs
"What if my child has never played an instrument before?" That's wonderful — many of our campers are complete beginners! The Music Exploration Summer Camp is specifically designed for children exploring music for the first time. We provide all instruments and our teachers use a gentle, encouraging approach that meets every child exactly where they are. For the Music Intensive Camp, beginners are absolutely welcome too — we group students by level so everyone is comfortable and challenged.
"What is the "One Class with a Parent" option?" This is our special Ready Set Violin track for ages 3–7. Your little one attends one hour daily with a parent, learning violin through our gentle, proven WEE Violin method. It's perfect for younger siblings while an older child attends the full camp, or for families who want a short musical introduction. Just $87 for the week — we provide the violins!
"What should my child bring each day?" A packed lunch, snacks, and a full water bottle. Please note we are a NUT-FREE camp. For the Music Intensive Camp, students bring their own instrument. For the Music Exploration Camp, we provide all instruments and art supplies — just bring your child and their enthusiasm!
"Is there before-care or after-care available?" Yes! Extended supervision before 8:45 AM and/or after 4:15 PM is available for an additional $50 for the week. Please indicate your supervision needs on your registration form.
"What is the teacher-to-student ratio?" We keep all classes small to ensure every child receives individual attention. Class sizes vary by activity but are kept intentionally small — this is one of the biggest things that sets our camps apart.
"Can my child attend both camps?" Absolutely! Many families register for both weeks. Each camp offers a completely different experience — exploration and discovery in Week 1, intensive musicianship and performance in Week 2.
"Are there allergy accommodations?" Yes — we are a completely nut-free camp. If your child has other allergies or dietary needs, please let us know on the registration form and we'll work with you.
"Where exactly do I drop off and pick up?" Camp is held at 6141 Chebucto Road, Halifax (the Lebanese Cultural Centre). There is free parking on-site for easy drop-off and pick-up.
"Is there financial assistance available?" The Scotia Suzuki School strives to provide an inclusive space for all participants. If you have any financial considerations, please email scotiasuzukievents@gmail.com — we would be happy to discuss how we can help accommodate you.
"What is the cancellation/refund policy?" A deposit of $100 is due at registration to save your child's spot (non-refundable). If you cancel more than 30 days before camp starts, you'll receive a 50% refund of the remaining camp fees. Cancellations with less than 30 days' notice cannot be refunded, as our camp is fully staffed and scheduled based on registered students. A $25 administration fee applies to all cancellations.
