Did Halloween sneak up on you this year? Me too! So here's my present for you: a free, one-page Halloween practice activity that takes almost no prep. Print it, grab a bag of plastic spiders, and you're done.
It's called Spin a Hard-Working Web! and it turns repetition into a spooky little adventure.
How it works
Each web has 7 spokes and three rings. Here are some ideas.
Rings 1 and 2: every time your player repeats something, they trace one dotted strand.
Ring 3 is blank: older students draw their own strands. Little ones are finished after Ring 2 and can finish it at home.
The surprise: when the web is done, a spider moves in!
Another idea:
If you want your student to practise something specific, write it right below the web. It makes the sheet feel personal, and they know exactly what each strand is for.

Hard-Working Lesson: use it right in the lesson.
Hard-Working Practice: send it home.
At our school, our teachers are using it in lessons all Halloween week. It makes for a really fun lesson! A child having a hard day can do two or three strands in the lesson, finish the rest at home, and still get their spider.
How I did it for 250 students
I photocopied one sheet onto bright orange paper from our local Staples. That was it! It took minutes.
For the spider, use whatever you can find:
plastic spiders in a bag from the dollar store
spider stickers
spider rings (even teens love these, and they're perfect for making someone squeal!)
For little ones, choose bigger spiders so they're not a choking hazard.
I also made little mummy chocolate bars: mini chocolate bars wrapped in gauze, tucked and glued, with googly eyes. I did the whole batch at once. Totally not necessary, though. Your students will love anything you do that feels special for Halloween.

Send it home for Halloween weekend
The web is a perfect thing to practise any day the whole week before the big night. Send it home at the end of the lesson and ask families to send you a photo of the finished web, with your student in their Halloween costume!
For Suzuki families: review and upgrade
Each strand can be one review / upgrade piece. Choose a review piece, choose one thing to upgrade, and play it. That's one strand!
Teachers, this is your chance to model it. When you review and upgrade in the lesson, families learn exactly how to do it at home.
Why it works
Dr. Suzuki said, "Knowledge is not skill. Knowledge plus ten thousand times is skill." The web makes those repetitions visible, and the surprise at the end makes them fun. That's the whole secret: making repetition easy, joyful and FUN.
