Hello everyone, I’m excited to talk about 100 day challenges and how to make practicing your instrument everyday a habit. the number one way is by using a daily practice chart. success comes from preparation for success and also doing a challenge with a friend. If you do a small 5 minute daily challenge WITH your child, at the same time, just watch how successful you will be TOGETHER! I can't wait to share this with you and I know you can do it! Daily positive practices are coming your way!
How many days does it take to create a habit?
There used to be a popular saying that it took 21 days to form a habit. New research shows that it actually takes longer. It takes closer to 12 weeks or over 66 days. So guys, this means it really does take a long time to make a new habit that becomes routine in our life and so please be kind to yourself as you work on this. It’s OK if you mess up and have to start over many times - this would be completely normal.
The players daily practice challenge
A very popular activity in Suzuki music programs around the world is the 100 day challenge. This is a wonderful way to help create a habit and make practicing a routine. Here are a few challenge charts that I made for you guys! I hope you like them. I can't wait to see some of them all done! Send me pictures!!!
If you find doing something every day consistently is difficult for you then no worries at all. I suggest that you start with a 60 day challenge, a 30 day challenge, or even a 10 day challenge. The grandness of the challenge doesn’t matter. What matters is that you’re making an effort to do something every day and improving. When you finish your challenge make sure that you celebrate. Choose something that will motivate you. It doesn’t have to be a food item or something you buy. It can be anything that you love to do too like have a family game night.
The parents daily preparation challenge
As a parent you can also do a challenge with your player. Your daily task is to take five minutes each day to set up and prepare for your practice time with your child. Set a timer just like your player does. Eventually this will become a habit for you and you won’t have to think about preparing for practices anymore and it will become part of your daily routine too! Your child will see you doing your daily challenge and as they see you supporting them in their challenge it's a win win. you can also ask your player to "remind you" to check off your chart.
One small change at a time
I know you can do this! Remember you don’t have to do everything at once. Just one thing at a time.
You only need to focus on it for your five minutes a day.
What kinds of things can you do in that 5 minutes? Attend my webinars for lots of ideas and more free resources to make your practice easier and more successful. you can also read a new article on this blog page and get new ideas. Ill notify you when I add new posts.
I promise that you will see results from your efforts right away with just 5 minutes of preparation. These results will give you energy to keep going with your five minute preparations the next day. It will create a cycle for you.
This is the same cycle that your child will experience in their practice time as you attend the webinars, read the blogs and keep making small positive changes in your home music practices.
