Musical Theatre Certificate Programs at SSSM
Pre-Professional Certificate
For students interested in developing skills to prepare them for auditioning for school musicals, community auditions and professional theatre companies. This is for students looking for Musical Theatre to be a big part of their future. 10 - 16 years old (9-year-old exceptions by audition) audition requirement to be accepted and for group placement.

Professional Certificate
For students interested in developing skills to prepare them for auditioning for their high school musicals, auditions for events and professional theatre companies. This is for students who also want to prepare for auditions for university and college programs. 14 years old - 18, (13-year-old exceptions by audition) requirement to be accepted and for group placement.
Pre-Professional Certificate graduation requirements:
-A 2-year program minimum
-Complete an additional 2 full-length solo concerts while enrolled in the program.
-Minimum of 80% attendance to graduate
-Will receive a Pre-Professional Musical Theatre Certificate

SSSM Musical Theatre standard Junior Program includes:
-20 Saturdays/year Performance group or Ensemble Singing & Sight Reading - Contemporary, Classical, Musical Theatre
-Saturday 10:30AM - 11:30AM Mth Jr. Perf. class & Improv Acting exercises
-Saturday 11:30AM -12PM Music Theory
-45-60 min weekly private voice lesson

Extra classes required for Pre - Professional Certification:
-12:15PM - 12:45PM Scene work & Stage Combat
-12:45PM - 1:30PM Movement class - Musical Theatre dance disciplines (tap, jazz, hip-hop & physical theatre)
-Optional (recommended): Self-Accompaniment for Singers Guitar or Piano class - 30 minutes

Professional Certificate graduation requirements:
-2-year program minimum to be completed in Grade 12 year of high school
-Complete one additional full-length solo concert while enrolled in the program
-Completion of an additional Senior Graduation Showcase
-A Senior Project must be completed with their Graduation Showcase. This will be submitted as a proposal and approved by the director.
(Up to 3 hours of coaching/support hours are available if needed)
Examples:
An original song written and produced on iTunes
Direct or assistant direct a production
Perform in a professional company show or union film
Write a script for a play
-Minimum of 80% attendance to graduate
-Will receive a Professional Musical Theatre Certificate

-60 min weekly private voice lesson
-Optional (recommended): Self-Accompanied Guitar or Piano class - 30 minutes
- Wednesday 6PM-7PM Ensemble Singing & Sight Reading - Contemporary, Classical, Musical Theatre
- Wednesday 7PM -7:30PM Music Theory

Extra classes required for Professional Certification:
-Wednesday 7:30PM - 9PM Scene work, Stage Combat & Movement - Musical Theatre dance disciplines (tap, jazz, hip hop & physical theatre)
-Optional (recommended): Self-Accompaniment for SIngers Guitar or Piano class - 30 minutes
