'The Supportive Enchanter': Make the Journey Magical

Transcript:

Well Hello " Supportive Enchanter" parent!

In the Wizarding World of Orlando, I witnessed parents who created a magical atmosphere for their children's wand practice. They dressed up, told stories, and played along in the adventure "together."

Just like the "Supportive Enchanter" parents in The Wizarding World,  in the home music practice space, you actively participate in the whole music lesson and practicing process. You attend lessons, maybe even play along on your own instrument, and create engaging practices. However, sometimes it can be challenging to keep up with your child's progress and to come up with ideas to keep them involved continuously.

About Christy:

As a fellow practicing parent of three and a music teacher of 35-plus years, I created this quiz to help you understand your unique magic abilities as a parent. I understand the challenges and joys of parenting musicians after raising 3 very different children of my own. I get it, and we're in this together.

Why this knowledge is powerful:

Knowing your magical parenting style is a powerful thing, because now you can use this knowledge to level up your practices.  You can specifically choose goals and how you will accomplish them based on things that you will naturally be good at. That means you will be successful and so will your child!

Congratulations!:

You've already shown your commitment to your child's musical education, by taking the time to

do this quiz - so congratulations…and you're here because you're ready to learn what to do next.

As a  " Supportive Enchanter" parent your next step is to become a master of ideas to make things magical and do what you already do naturally but even better and easier with less time. You can also find ways to balance when you are “all in”and when you take a step back and see what they do on their own.

Here are the two things to focus on next:

First, be really clear in your communication when you are not there or busy. Sometimes when children are so used to doing things with a parent it's hard for them to do things alone without really clear instructions and expectations.

Second, save your time and energy by using prepared practicing activities. Take a block of time and print and prepare them ahead of time or make their preparation part of the time you spend together. There are dozens of resources on the Practicing Pro Blog.

Think about these TWO things, and you’ve got this! And hey, thank you for being a “Supportive Enchanter” parent - the world NEEDS fun-involved adults like YOU! You are able to be with a child where they are in the way they need. This is a special quality you have and should always keep!

The next step:

Now, ready to put it all together and take the next step? If you're wondering what's next and how to leverage this information, I have a special one-time workshop coming up – the "Level Up Your Music Practices in 2024” with Your Magical Style of Parenting. This FREE workshop is your chance to integrate your newfound knowledge and make 2024 a year of incredible growth and success.

Too often, we try to improve by doing something we read or see online or in our studios. Maybe something your teacher is asking you to do or you read about.

This is great to be inspired by others, but success comes from doing the right thing and not doing everything.  When you make goals that resonate with your natural, innate style, then you will have success. As you've discovered in this quiz from Practicing pro, you know your magical parenting style, and it is unique and powerful.  So now instead of focusing on what you have read or seen others do, we will instead use YOUR specific strengths as a “Supportive Enchanter” to your advantage.
