#20 Christmas "By- Ear" Charades Game

Updated: Jul 12, 2023

By Christy | The Practicing Pro

Here is a fun Christmas "Play-by-Ear" and Charades activity that you can use for your practicing! You can play it as a family activity or with your practicing parent.

How to Play:

Find your level:

- Beginner

- Intermediate

- Advanced

Download the cards for your level (see below) and cut them out along the dotted lines. Fold each card and put it in a hat or bowl.

Randomly pick a card which will tell you which Christmas song to play by ear!

You can also play it with your practicing parent or with your whole family.

On your turn, you can play the song on the card "by ear" for them to guess what it is, or you can act it out for them to guess first and then play it for them after once they get it! If you don't know the tune of the song well enough to play it "by ear" that's ok you can act it out and then choose a new one.

I have included TAB or sheet music for all of the songs on the cards so that you can find them if needed. For the beginning and intermediate level cards for VIOLIN, I have also given a start note to help you start in a key that will work well and is the same as the music Ilink that I have provided.

Sheet music for Infant King from one of my favorite Christmas books to use - Christmas Kaleidoscope, arranged by Robert S. Frost. (link to purchase below)

For a list of 16 more Holiday practicing activities, you can check out my article - Practicing during the Holidays.

You can play this over FaceTime or Zoom with your friends/family to share your music with them! I would love it if you would send me a photo of you playing this charades game with your parent, or over a video call! It always makes me so happy to see how hard you're working!
